Described herein are methods of identifying agonists or antagonists of interaction between human protein chemokine beta-9 (CK?-9) and human CC chemokine receptor 7 (CCR7), via a process of contacting the cell-expressing receptor with a test compound. The invention relates to the agonists and antagonists of the interaction between CK?-9 and its cellular receptor, human CCR7, and methods of their identification and use. Therapeutic applications are included, such as in the treatment of allergic disorders, autoimmune diseases, ischemia or reperfusion injury, atherosclerosis, cancer, chronic inflammatory disorders, chronic rejection of transplanted organs or tissue grafts, chronic myelogenous leukemia, and infection by HIV and other pathogens.
