This is a novel system for isolating human neuroepithelial precursor cells from human fetal neural tissue at a stage at which neurogenesis occurs. Methods are described for culturing of the cells in a medium containing fibroblast growth factor and chick embryo extract, as are methods for immunodepleting from the cultured human fetal neural cells any cells expressing A2B5, NG2 and eNCAM such that an isolated population of human neuroepithelial precursor cells remains.
