This invention introduces novel human pre-B cell receptor monoclonal antibodies produced by hybridoma HSL2, and antibodies reacting with V pre-B molecules. Described herein is an antibody which recognizes a human pre-B cell receptor and does not recognize a human pro-B cell. Further disclosed are methods of diagnosing at which stage of B cell differentiation the acute childhood form of lymphoblastic leukemia develops. Methods of use are provided for such antibodies. Therapeutic applications emphasize the diagnosis of acute lymphatic leukemia in infants.
