This is a continuation of patent no. US7097823, by the same assignee and inventors. This invention further develops a therapeutic method for treating leukemia, in which hydration of the patient is followed by administration of the radioprotectant, after which the patient receives a stem cell transplant, instead of full body radiation. Specific radioprotectant and stem cell transplantation methods are disclosed.
