Described herein are novel monoclonal antibodies and bivalent molecules which activate erythropoietins and induce the proliferation or differentiation of erythroid progenitor cells. Further disclosed are hybridoma cell lines and associated pharmaceutical compositions. Therapeutic and experimental applications are included, such as in drug development and in the treatment and diagnosis of conditions due to diminished erythropoietin receptor activity such as anemia.
