This invention describes a method for producing primate embryoid bodies from colonies of primate embryonic stem cells that are adhering to a substrate. The primate embryoid bodies are formed from the primate ES cells, which form clumps, which are then removed and incubated under conditions in which the ES cells coalesce into embryoid bodies. Precise means of development of embryoid bodies from the primate ES cells are further disclosed.
