Described herein are methods of improving tissue inductive activity of a bone morphogenic protein (BMP) on a mammalian progenitor cell. The invention relates to a process of coadministering a morphogenic protein stimulatory factor (MPSF) to a cell for improving the tissue inductive activity of morphogenic proteins belonging to the BMP protein family via the use of implantable morphogenic devices comprising a morphogenic protein and a MPSF disposed within a carrier. Claims of the invention include improved induction of tissue formation in allogeneic and xenogeneic implants, and an acceleration of allograft repair in a mammal using such morphogenic devices Further disclosed is a prosthetic device comprising a prosthesis coated with a morphogenic protein and a MPSF, and methods for promoting the in vivo integration of the implantable prosthetic device to enhance the bond strength between the prosthesis and the existing target tissue at the joining site. Therapeutic applications are included for the treatment of mammalian tissue degenerative conditions.
