Described herein are methods of in vivo and in situ organogenesis via a process of surgically transferring autogenous peritoneum-containing stem cells to the site of injury. The invention relates to an in vivo method of organogenesis of various mammalian tissues and organs, such that an autogenous peritoneal segment containing stem cells is surgically transferred to the site in need of regeneration, after having been selected from a corresponding contiguous embryonal region of the body that is removed from the site where the organ or tissue is to be regenerated. Claims of the invention include a resulting new tissue environment for regeneration of the desired tissue or organ.
